One of the most common complaints about water in Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey is that it is too hard. This is understandable, because hard water can create all kinds of problems in your home. Today we’re going to take a look at the effects of hard water in your home and how a water softener like the Hague WaterMax can address them!
Effects of hard water on your plumbing system
Hard water contains an excess amount of calcium and magnesium. One part of your plumbing system where this is particularly problematic is your pipes. Over time, hardness minerals can attach to the walls of your pipes and close off the amount of space that’s available for water to flow through. This can not only reduce water pressure in your home, but also create pressure around clogs that can crack or burst your pipes.
Another part of your plumbing system where hard water is problematic is your water heater. Hardness minerals build up on the bottom of your water heater’s tank over time, which can dramatically decrease its efficiency. This will lead to higher utility bills and reduced your water heater’s performance.
In addition to causing clogs and inefficiencies, hard water also creates unsightly white spots and stains known as “limescale” that build up on your faucets, sinks, bathtubs and more.
Effects of hard water on cleaning
Hard water does not lather with soap as well as soft water does. This can create a couple of different problems when it comes to household cleaning tasks like doing laundry or the dishes. Dishes that are washed in hard water often come out cloudy, streaky or spotty. When clothes are washed in hard water, they don’t come out as clean, their colors begin to fade and the material that they’re made of can get scratchy.
In addition, you might end up using more soap and detergents when your home has hard water. This means you’ll have to buy new products more often, which can get expensive over time.
Effects of hard water on skin
Another effect of hard water not lathering well with soap is that it can irritate your skin. After showering or washing your hands with hard water, it’s not uncommon for your skin to become dry, itchy and/or irritated.
Install a water softener to avoid the effects of hard water
The best way to address the problems associated with hard water is to install a water softener in your home. A water softener will remove hardness minerals from your home’s water as soon as the water enters your home, which will allow you to have softened water at every tap.
