WaterMax® Signature Series FAQs

Straight answers about Hague’s WaterMax® Signature Series - features, warranties, salt use, and how it compares to conventional softeners.

What is the WaterMax® Signature Series water softener?

The WaterMax® Signature Series is Hague Quality Water’s top-of-the-line whole-house water treatment system for well and city water. It includes features like a convenient built-in bypass, smart touch controller, audible and visual salt alerts, efficient water distribution, fully customizable chambers, safety shut-off, and a protective grid plate. H

ague’s customized, patented systems represent over 40 years of engineering expertise. Warranty coverage includes a 25-year, 100% warranty on tank and valve and a 10-year, 100% warranty on computer, electronics, and moving parts.

How is Signature Series different from a big-box softener?

It comes down to a superior build quality, enhanced durability, and improved efficiency. Unlike all-in-one cabinet models from retail chains that house the salt and resin in a single enclosure, Signature Series systems generally feature a two-tank design that isolates delicate internal components from corrosive salt dust, helping them stand up to municipal chlorine for 15 to 20 years.

In contrast, big-box units rely on lighter-grade plastic components that often degrades within 5 to 10 years, making them disposable appliances rather than long-term investments. In addition, big-box softeners typically use single-tank systems that bypass untreated hard water into your home during regeneration cycles and use basic timers that waste salt and water.

Will it make my drinking water taste better?

Softening mainly removes hardness minerals that cause scale, spotting, and soap scum—not the compounds that usually drive taste. Chlorine, lead, and PFAS are better handled with dedicated drinking-water filtration such as reverse osmosis. Many homes run a Signature Series unit for the whole house and an under-sink RO for cooking and drinking. We recommend that pairing only when your chemistry calls for it. If contaminants are the priority, also see our PFAS water filtration options.

How much salt does the system use?

Salt use depends on hardness, household water use, and how the control valve is programmed. A properly sized Signature Series regenerates efficiently instead of wasting salt on a rigid clock. We walk you through salt type, a safe brine-tank fill level, and whether a delivery plan is worth it so you are not guessing. Optional salt delivery keeps bags on site if you would rather not haul them yourself.

How long does installation take?

A typical point-of-entry WaterMax Signature Series install is completed in a single visit once the job is on the calendar. Most homes are scheduled within 1–2 weeks of a free water test. Before we set a date we confirm bypass, drain line, and electrical needs so the crew is not improvising on site. Tight mechanical rooms or extra treatment equipment can add time, and we flag that during the pre-install review.

Do you service WaterMax systems you did not originally install?

Yes. We evaluate existing Hague WaterMax units and other softeners, then perform the maintenance the valve and resin actually need. An upgrade is recommended only if the current equipment cannot meet your hardness, capacity, or reliability requirements. Inherited systems in a newly purchased home are a common reason for a first visit. Water system repair and maintenance covers diagnostics, programming, and resin or salt issues without assuming you must buy new.
